As a part of the summer league fun, Kayla also acted as an assistant coach for the freshmen and junior varsity teams. She really enjoyed that role as she got to coach her younger sister, Kelsey and her cousin Christina Canez (both incoming freshmen at Highland).
Kayla Miranda’s passion is basketball. Her ability to drive to the hoop, take the outside shot or pull up and shoot the short jumper make her an offensive threat all over the court. She’s a fierce defender that enjoys a physical game. Her defensive skills have denied top scorers from schools across Arizona and the nation. Kayla Miranda possesses leadership, discipline and drive on and off the court. Her work ethic and focus ensure success in academics and athletics.

Coaching basketball has become a passion for Kayla. She volunteered as assistant coach for Highland Junior High's 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams this season. She enjoyed showing the girls drills that they would be doing in high school and helping them with skills like man-to-man defense, setting correct screens and good passing.
The 7th grade finished the season 6-7 and the 8th grade finished 11-2, narrowly losing a repeat sectional championship to rival Gilbert Junior High.

Kayla Miranda and Arizona Sting Finish Strong in Nike Spring Shoot Out
SW Cactus Slam A Huge Success
Kayla Miranda was thrilled to be a part of the Southwest Cactus Slam. She and her teammates were a critical component to the success of the tournament. With over 175 teams and 12 courts under one roof, they worked tirelessly - setting up the courts, running the clocks, keeping score and anything else Coach Alonzo or the tournament organizers requested. Oh and they did play some basketball. Although they went 2 and 2, they had victories over teams from Arizona and Colorado.

Sting Place Second in Southwest Shoot Out
Kayla Miranda and the Arizona Sting Grey placed second when they made a trip to El Paso, Texas March 30-April 1 to play in the Southwest Shoot Out. One of the most exciting games was when they played the El Paso Huskies in the semi finals.
This strong team with a 6'5" Baylor commit in Kristina Higgins was undefeated in nearly two years of play - until they went against the Sting. The Sting had lost to the Huskies in earlier pool play and was excited for a rematch. It was a tight game, trading the lead up until the last 3 seconds when Kayla stole a pass and made a layup over Higgins to tie the game. The Sting won the game in overtime to move on to the championships. Unfortunately with only a 20 minute rest before the game, the Sting was unable to win the championship. But everyone felt they had already won.
