Kayla Miranda Scores During Highland High Summer Ball

One of Kayla's favorite times of the year - high school summer basketball. Camp in the morning and games two to three nights a week. The month of June is full of basketball. As a senior this coming year, Kayla has embraced a leadership role on the Highland Hawks Varsity Team.

As a part of the summer league fun, Kayla also acted as an assistant coach for the freshmen and junior varsity teams. She really enjoyed that role as she got to coach her younger sister, Kelsey and her cousin Christina Canez (both incoming freshmen at Highland).

Buzzer Beaters and Defense Lead to Title Round

The Highland High School Lady Hawks beat Dobson on Thursday, February 9th, earning a spot in the Sectional Finals. It was an tense game of strong defense and well timed shots.

Kayla Miranda had one of the exciting moments as covered in the East Valley Tribune: Buzzer-beaters, defense leads Highland girls to sectional title game: "With 1.2 seconds left before halftime, Kathleen Cabrera was fouled and made her first free throw. Her second free throw was off the mark but Kayla Miranda was there for the rebound and put back at the buzzer to give the Hawks a 20-18 lead at intermission."

It was also covered on AZCentral.com: Highland girls basketball pulls away from Dobson at sectionals: "Highland and Dobson traded the lead for the entire first half before a jumper by junior guard Kayla Miranda as time expired gave the Hawks a 20-18 lead at halftime."
